Who is the NIAA?
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) funds programs and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including grants under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS).
How does NIAA funding work?
Grant recipients sign a single Head Agreement with the Commonwealth, represented by the NIAA. It sets the general terms for all of the organisation's projects, and each grant then has its own schedule setting out what is funded and what must be reported.
What do grant recipients report?
- Performance reports. Submitted through the IAS Online Performance Reporting System, on the dates set in your grant schedule.
- Financial reports. Reporting on how the grant funds were spent, as set out in your agreement.
- Program requirements. Some programs ask for extra data or reporting, set out in the grant opportunity guidelines.
Some fields in performance reports are filled in automatically from the NIAA's grant system. For questions about a report, contact your NIAA contact officer.
Other requirements
Organisations that receive $500,000 or more in a single financial year must be incorporated under Commonwealth legislation. Funded activities are also covered by the NIAA's compliance framework.
